It recognizes employers who have used OSHA’s On-Site Consultation Program services and operate an exemplary safety and health program. The Sharp program focuses only on one project at a time and the project must meet a set of criteria to be considered (duration, contract value, etc.) This year, D&D celebrated the successful completion of their second Sharp project, the National Guard Readiness Center in Wilmington, NC.  Commissioner Cherie Berry and OSHA representatives Chuck Murdock and Jiles Manning presented Daniels & Daniels, along with five subcontractors, with a Sharp Flag and Certificate at the January ceremony. Jim Daniels Sr., a founder of the company, was in attendance and helped D&D receive their flag.  After all, the successful safety culture started with him and his brother Ben 50 some years ago. This year, the company was given the opportunity to expand our pre-fabricated offerings to include the extremely innovative Olympic Folding Building, manufactured by Dogwood Industries out of Seattle, Washington.  The design requirements for this MCAS Cherry Point contract included infrastructure and utilities for a Pre-engineered Panelized Metal Relocatable Building (PPMRB) to house the Laser Shock Peening (LSP) process for the F-35 Airframes. LSP is a surface treatment technique meant to improve fatigue performance of metals. FRC East needed a temporary facility to support this activity for a minimum of 60 months. We knew it was a unique project and one that would certainly challenge our team. However, it was also an opportunity to learn about a new construction process and add to our experience as a firm. D&D was awarded the contract on September 30th, 2018 and given just six short months to complete the design, have the building fabricated, shipped and installed. The project...

Have no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given; and Have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group. The Gold Award is based on the days away, restricted, transferred (DART) rate, which includes cases of days away from work, restricted activity or job transfer. Damon Jones represented D&D at the event and was there to accept the STAR Master Builder Award for the Arapahoe Charter School project. The design for this project was one of the most complicated PEMB that has been designed. There is 49,000 SF of roof panels and 14,ooo SF of wall panels installed in the structure. The exterior of the building is brick veneer to 9’4” and then pre-engineered panels above. In total, there are 12 separate buildings designed into a complex arrangement. Several buildings utilized a pyramid-shaped hip roof. In order to get the right look, the main frames had to be outset from the frame line. Detailing these connections and having them blend with the masonry and overall design was quite different than what is typically seen on custom metal buildings.
